Support for Delegates to Attend Welsh Cultural Meetings in 2010

Partial financial support will be provided for delegates to attend the 2010 Meetings of: Cwrs Cymraeg (Cardiff); N. American Festival of Wales (Portland).

Information on these events can be obtained from the websites associated with these meetings.

Interested members of the Calgary Welsh Society (CWS) who are current, paid-up members of the society should apply in writing by Jan 15th 2010. to the membership secretary, E. Westlake at: #603-10 Discovery Ridge Hill SW, Calgary, AB. T3H 5X2; Email: welsh_gal13@yahoo.ca

More information can be obtained from the membership secretary by telephone: (403) 256-4136.

The letter or Email from each applicant should address the following issues

  • Why you wish to attend.
  • Current Welsh language ability (for Cwrs Cymraeg).
  • Length of Membership in the CWS.
  • Future benefit to the society of your attendance.
  • Examples of the help you have given to the CWS over past years.

Individuals who obtained financial support in 2009 are not eligible to apply, to ensure that funds can be spread around interested members of the society.

An independent committee of CWS members who are not part of the current Executive will review the applications and place them in order of merit. It is hoped that applicants will be informed by mid February of the result of their application.

It is a condition of any support that successful applicants should provide a written report to the Executive of the CWS of the benefit of their attendance after the meeting is over.

In addition, funds will only be disbursed upon receipt of approved expenditures associated with the meeting.

Please note that this support from the CWS is conditional upon the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission agreeing that our Casino funds can be used for this purpose. Normally, it takes at least a month for the AGLC to make a decision on our application. Hence it is unlikely that a final decision on the support will be known until late March/early April at the earliest.
